Aziz Ansari - Response to Charlotte's Post
As an Aziz Ansari in Parks and Recreation fan, I totally relate to enjoying his type of humor and him in general as a person. This clip was not my favorite of his though! I do agree that it is an interesting outlook on marriage and I like the points he makes, but this does not scream funny to me. Stand-up is a genre of comedy that is either a hit or miss with me. When I'm in the right mood, around the right people, and in the right environment stand-up is something I really enjoy, otherwise it just doesn't hit my funny bone, if you will. I think Charlotte makes good points about Ansari's approach in this clip, but I just didn't find this one funny as much as it was a creative way to look at an old idea.

Can you say more about why you don't find it funny? Do you find it intelligent, if you don't find it funny? that is, do you take the points that he is making? Do you not find it funny because you don't appreciate his attack on marriage, or do you just find that it's not that creative. Can you find comedy creative but not funny?
ReplyDeleteI agree Emma. I think that overall Ansari is very funny but this video in particular didn't really strike me a laughable. He made very interesting points about marriage that I had never thought about before. In response to Dr. Herron, I think the reason I don't find it funny is because he's analyzing something we as a society are familiar with and accept as an everyday occurrence (marriage) and something I don't think about a lot. Most of the things I find funny are ones I can relate to. I definitely find it intelligent because he brought a different perspective. I agree that you can definitely find comedy creative but not funny. This would be an example.
ReplyDeleteI do find what he is saying intelligent in the way that he is making interesting points. I can't say that i agree with what he is saying, which is my personal opinion, but he is making a statement of his own design in an interesting way and I have no jurisdiction to take that away from him.
ReplyDeleteIs comedy that is interesting but not funny worthy of attention?
